A little over a year ago, I publicly divulged the fact that I had a little Youtube ladygirlcrush on Jenn Im from Clothes Encounters. Though I didn’t say it explicitly, my admiration shone through my vague/unobtrusive words – and these feelings carried through from 2012 to 2013; only taking breaks when my Internet data limit reached it’s peak and cut me off from YouTube.
With that said, you can imagine the ~communal~ delight shared between my PIMWA (Partner In Many Wholesome Activities) and I when Jenn took a quick lil’ jaunt over to Canadian soil. The result? An entire afternoon seeing some IRL high ponytail action during a shoot in collaboration with MTV FORA, (and then a couple of non-work related meals after that).
I constantly joke that my job is super #meta (in the best way possible), but sometimes it really IS difficult to decipher whether or not if I should be speaking in first or third person when I’m posting on FORA. For this article, I opted for a more ~casual~ approach, citing Bianca and I as “the girls of Kastor & Pollux” rather than explicitly screaming “ME n MY BFF WAHEHE”. To give all of you a bit of background information on the shoot, we essentially wanted to marry all of our favourite things and package them up in a lil’ visually sound GIF look book. Our favourite things of course being 1) Kastor & Pollux, 2) animated GIFs, 3) design that looks like it’s on acid, 4) summer vacations, and 5) Jenn’s face.
(Smartly/wittily/pun-illy) titled “Summer Encounters,” this look book basically entailed us superimposing Jenn onto 5 of her ideal summer destinations – both fictional and non-fictional. Including “Peter Pan’s Mermaid Lagoon” and “The Amazon,” I’d like to go ahead and say that this is the epitome of ~whimsical~. There might be a little bias there…but I don’t care. H8ers.
