A Month With Stylelist Canada (Part 3)

With our respective “vacations” cutting into the first third of August, the past couple of weeks have been spent playing an intense game of catch…up; completing jewelry orders, finalizing NYFW plans, putting the final touches on our Fall clothing collection, and, of course, writing a plethora of fun articles for Stylelist Canada.

While we enjoy throwing ourselves into eternal “to do” lists, it’s hard not to switch over into cynic-mode the moment our plane hits all-too-familiar YYZ turf. Why must vacations only be fleeting moments of bliss? I mean, it’s one thing to feel really great about yourself when you’re basking in warmth of non-humid temperatures, laying casually on the beach, and eating 5 different varieties of poutine…but weeks away are always concluded by an emotionally painful reminder that what stays in (insert destination here) will not be carried over into our everyday lives as werking ladygirls.

Needless to say, we still managed to complete a variety of interesting Stylelist posts that you should probably peruse if you’re looking to kill time on this lovely Sunday afternoon. From emulating Annie Hall to dressing up t-shirts, hopefully you’ll find some sort of ~inspiration~ from the written depths of our brains.

• 10 SUPERFOODS YOUR DIDN’T KNOW WERE SUPERFOODS (read »)

Excerpt: Truth: whether you’re trying to add a glow back to your skin or simply want to look leaner in your skinny jeans, eating right is the common denominator. But the second you decide to change your ways — and break it off with those empty carbs — is the same instant you end up waltzing into a supermarket thinking, “So now what should I eat?” And trust us, we know how you feel.

• MOVIE INSPIRED FASHION: CLEMENTINE FROM ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND (read »)

Excerpt: If you came here for a recount of one of 2000’s most notorious love and loss stories, you’re definitely in the right place — because in this edition of Movie Inspired Fashion, we’re taking you on a journey through snow angels, medical procedures and the essence of preserving and erasing memories.

• SUMMER 2013’S HOTTEST LOOKS REDONE FOR FALL (read »)

Excerpt: As we bid farewell to the final fleeting moments of summer, we must accept that a successful transition into fall requires us to survive (multiple and inevitable) wardrobe-triggered anxiety attacks.

• THE PERFECT PAIR OF SUNGLASSES FOR YOUR FACE SHAPE (read »)

Excerpt: Despite our hopes and dreams of rocking sunglasses with a smile, for years, we avoided UV-protectors like the plague. As you can guess, our small faces failed to match with large frames à la the Olsens — instead of looking chic, we just looked like oversized flies.

• MOVIE INSPIRED FASHION: ANNIE HALL (read »)

Excerpt: Stacy and Clinton from What Not To Wear may disagree, but as 20-something ladygirls, we must digress; not all female wardrobes must consist of pointy-toed shoes and business casual dresses. The great thing about being an up-and-coming working gal is the endless potential to integrate personality into our fashion choices; which are, by no means, limited to flippy skirts and cinched waists.

• THE BEST EYEBROWS FOR YOUR FACE SHAPE (read »)

Excerpt: Some like them thick, some like them thin and some like them non-existent, but the overall reality is eyebrows are face-defining. And if you don’t choose the right shape for your face, they could strike back and mess with your entire facial structure.

• MOVIE INSPIRED FASHION: SUZY BISHOP FROM MOONRISE KINGDOM (read »)

Excerpt: Wes Anderson took us on a fantastical adventure in 2012’s soon-to-be-cult-classic-rom-com-dram, ‘Moonrise Kingdom.’ Following the budding relationship between two adventurous 12-year-olds — sassy Suzy Bishop and soft-spoken Sam Shakusky — the film is a majestic masterpiece; a hazy Instagram-esque filter permeated on the idyllic mid-60s plot. Of course, from the man who brought us The Royal Tenenbaums (and subsequent muse Margot Tenenbaum a la Gwyneth Paltrow), we would expect no less.

• 5 WAYS TO DRESS UP T-SHIRTS (read »)

Excerpt: Long-running connotations of EMO band paraphernalia and scene girl insignias (including, but not limited to: Hello Kitty, rainbows and cupcakes) brought back less-than-fond memories of our adolescent years — limiting our ability/desire to style what should’ve been considered the simplest of wardrobe staples.

• 5 WAYS TO EASILY BRIGHTEN YOUR SMILE (read »)

Excerpt: We at StyleList Canada know first-hand how important a smile is. We’ve put ourselves through years of being the awkward, brace-faced teenager and have subjected our pearly whites to dozens of sensitivity problems courtesy of at-home whitening kits; all this to bring our grins that much closer to perfection. It’s a little ridiculous, we admit, but confidently beaming and lighting up a room is something we hold in high regard.
